International rugby players, TV personalities and politicians braved the elements and got tagging for charity at the festival’s opening match. The celebrity match kicked off the tag rugby and music event and raised money for the ISPCC and IRFU Charitable Fund.

After the celebrity match, it was back to the 90’s dance floor, as Pump Up the Jam brought their 90’s nostalgia to the festival and got celebs, tag-players and non-players in dance mode.

International rugby players, TV personalities and politicians are getting ready to tag, as PLAY Tag Festival kicks off in Carlow on Friday 15h June with a charity celebrity match. The latest addition to the PLAY celebrity line up is model Sarah McGovern.

The celebrity tag rugby match is free of entry and donations will be collected on the night in aid of ISPCC and IRFU Charitable Fund.

So far, personalities confirmed for the charity match line up include former Irish rugby international Mick Galwey, rugby players Mossy Lawlor, Stephen Keogh, Heinke van der Merwe and Paul Clinch; Leinster physio Stephen Smith (Vesty), Fair City actress and model Vivienne Connolly, TV personality Marietta Doran, as well as Carlow Roses Marian Hynes and Jane Sheppard; Kildare Fine Gael TD Martin Heydon and Carlow Fine Gael TD Pat Deering.

After the celebrity match, it will be back to the 90’s dance floor at the PLAY Tag Festival, as Pump Up the Jam will be bringing their 90’s nostalgia to the festival and getting tag-players and non-players in dance mode.

Tag rugby teams will take to the pitch on Saturday 16^th. Festival organisers expect to attract 256 tag rugby teams, with 2,880 players, to Carlow for the biggest tag rugby festival ever, and break the Guinness World Record.

Non-players will also be catered for, as the festival will include a free entry family day on Saturday with plenty of activities for all ages, including balloons, face painting, kids tattoos, arts and crafts, bouncy castle, slides and obstacle course. The festival will also have a food and shopping area, including arts and crafts, sweet shop, Eddie Rockets, candy floss, handmade jewellery and many more.

There will be all-day entertainment on Saturday, with DJs and music brought by Pete Fagan & The Troubadours, The Waxies, Roisin Dubh and Justin Kelly.

“We want to invite everybody to come along and have a fabulous day out with the family on Saturday: enjoy our activities and watch the matches,” explains Shannon Brown, one of the organisers of PLAY Tag Festival. “Friday night will be also free of charge for the celebrity match so we can raise funds for charity. After that, the music gigs, camping and bar area will be strictly for over 18s and there is a small charge for the camping and the concert.”
