If you like dressing up, having fun and doing something for others – why not become a Runaway Bride (or groom) for a day and help raise funds for a good cause?
St Patrick’s University Hospital in Dublin is organising the second edition of its Runaway Bride Charity Run on Saturday 11th September 2010.
Whether you are single, married, separated or divorced, the Runaway Bride fun run is a great excuse to wear your dress again or even trial run a dress (you can also create your own bridal costume if you like!). It is also a perfect opportunity to have the girls night out, family get together or the class re-union you have all been promising yourselves.
Monies raised will help the hospital continue in its efforts to meet the needs of people suffering with mental illness in Ireland.
Funds will assist ‘Mental Health Matters’, the 5-year strategy of the Hospital. The strategy commits to developing a wide range of new services and treatments, including Services for Adolescents, Community Mental Health Clinics (Dean Clinics), Addiction Services and Multi-disciplinary Assessments.
In Ireland it is estimated that 1 in 5 teenagers will suffer some form of mental illness. About 5% will require clinical intervention with a number of these needing inpatient services. These services are poorly lacking in Ireland at present.
