Colaiste Bhride Carnew expands with RoanKabin

Reduces on site traffic by 90% with Modular Buildings

Colaiste Bhride Principal Linda Dunne and RoanKabin's Michael BurkeRoanKabin, the leading provider of sophisticated off-site modular building systems, has won a third contract with Co. Wicklow VEC for building systems at Colaiste Bhride, Carnew.  This time, the deal is worth circa €500,000 and is to erect a permanent two storey building containing two classrooms and two practical rooms.

RoanKabin was included in the first pre qualification round with multiple suppliers before making it to the final shortlisted group.  In a fiercely contested final round, RoanKabin beat off the other companies based on the most economically advantageous tender including  price, quality, speed of erection and safety.  Kevin Lewis of Co. Wicklow VEC was responsible for supervising the selection process and the VEC Property Support and Services Section will manage all aspects of the construction process.

Linda Dunne, Principal of Colaiste Bhride, praised the classrooms already provided by RoanKabin historically.  “We have a number of modular structures already in place, some permanent and some temporary, to accommodate our fast growing student population,” she says.  “The quality of the product and moreover the ease with which we can slot them in, despite the busy nature of the school premises is critical.  Modular construction means we can safely erect permanent classrooms with minimal fuss.”

The new two storey building will host four regular classrooms, a home economics room and a woodworking classroom.  The two practical rooms are to be fully fitted out by RoanKabin.

Currently RoanKabin is preparing the ground work and foundations and has begun construction this November.  The estimated completion date is February 2011.

As Michael Burke, Business Development Manager with RoanKabin says:  “We are delighted to have been chosen to undertake this significant project.  We have worked with Co. Wicklow VEC and with Colaiste Bhride over the years and found them to be very exacting and particular clients.  A key aspect, outside of price and quality, is the fact we can ensure 90% less traffic on the school’s premises through the construction process.  And with some 800 pupils enrolled in this busy school and tight building footprint, safety is a critical concern.”

Colaiste Bhride is one of the fastest growing schools in Wicklow with just under 800 pupils, 60 teachers and 37 classrooms.
