Including gluten-free dining for adults
The Little Chefs Club cookery classes for children and cooking classes for adults are back at Rathwood (www.rathwood.com), the shopping and activity centre in the Wicklow/Carlow border.
Rathwood’s head chef Jimmy Scheobe will be running the popular cookie baking classes for kids once a month, as well as teaching the little chefs how to prepare dishes and treats with a seasonal theme, including pancakes, Easter cakes and spring rolls.
The adult cooking classes schedule includes a new gluten-free dining session on 18th February to cater for those suffering or living with sufferers of coeliac disease or gluten intolerance, a disease it is estimated affects 1 in 100 people (according to Coeliac Society of Ireland, coeliac.ie).
“We started introducing gluten free cakes and dishes to our restaurant’s menu a couple of years ago, following demand from the public. Almost any of the cakes from our dessert menu can also be ordered specifically to be made gluten-free,” he explains. “It is important we cater for people with allergies at the restaurant and the themes chosen for the cookery classes are also reflecting that.”
