Johnstown Castle Stars in Top Wedding Series

First Irish Wedding in Johnstown Castle Stars on RTE 2’s Don’t Tell The Bride

Press Release

Johnstown Castle in Co. Wexford is now open to couples

Wexford based Wedding Planner, Rosemarie Meleady was delighted to get a call from Tipperary man Lee Doyle enquiring about having his wedding ceremony in Johnstown Castle. However, there was a catch! The wedding was in three days and it was being filmed for RTE’s hit series Don’t Tell The Bride!

The idea behind the programme Don’t Tell the Bride is that the groom is given three weeks and 10k to pay for the entire wedding. The bride and groom are not allowed to see each other or communicate during the 3 weeks, so the whole wedding (including choosing the bride’s dress!) is in the hands of the groom.

“I was delighted when Lee Doyle contacted me about having his wedding at Johnstown castle, although three days notice was a bit of a shock!” explains Rosemarie, who got the castle first opened for weddings last September.

“As the wedding was in April, it was going to make the ceremony the first wedding for an Irish couple at the castle, so it was great to have it televised. Local wedding suppliers were brilliant and rallied around, which made my job a lot easier! Murhan Events supplied the beautiful aisle runner, chair covers and flower arrangements, Tony and Pat from Forth Mountain Carriage Driving Centre supplied the beautiful horse drawn carriage, Phelim Byrne came by with his crew with bubbly and delicious canapés and the very talented Steve Tallon entertained the crowd during their drinks reception. There is a great, strong wedding business community in Wexford and they really pulled out all the stops to showcase what the county has to offer.”

As word has spread about the castle being available for weddings bookings have come from Boston, Texas, Minnesota and the UK as well as local Wexford couples. The couple that featured on the show were from Tipperary and Carlow.

“Johnstown Castle is such an asset to Wexford tourism and the wedding industry. We have brilliant reception venues to offer, from the classic Horetown House to the contemporary Whites Hotel and the average number of other services used in planning a wedding is 18 businesses,  so showcasing Johnstown Castle as a top wedding ceremony venue on national TV will help drive more business into the county in the coming months from other counties.”
