PLAY Tag Festival looking to beat Guinness World Record

256 teams, 2,880 players for biggest tag rugby event ever

PLAY Tag Festival is looking to break the Guinness World Record by attracting 256 tag rugby teams (2,880 players) to Carlow for the biggest tag rugby festival ever, taking place on 15th and 16th June.

PLAY Tag Festival organisers are asking teams from Ireland and abroad to take part in the festival which will include weekend camping, music, entertainment and other fun activities, such as a celebrity tag rugby match on Friday night.

Tickets for the celebrity tag rugby match will be available for the general public and funds raised on

the night will go to support two charities: the ISPCC (Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) and the IRFU Charitable Trust.

Early bird tickets for tag rugby teams are available at a discounted price until 16th April at

“We are encouraging teams to sign up early for discounted prices. The general public is also invited to come to the festival and watch the matches, especially, the celebrity tag rugby match to help us raise funds for the two charities,” says Shannon Brown. “Our aim is to reach the 256 tag rugby teams mark to beat the world record.”

The largest mini rugby tournament was 2,610 participants, and was organised by the Hong Kong Mini

Rugby Football Union at the Hong Kong Football Club/Happy Valley in Hong Kong in China on 30 October 2010.
