Racing legend Moscow Flyer tweeting for Irish Horse Welfare Trust

Legendary racing horse Moscow Flyer – the Jessica Harrington trained winner of the Arkle Challenge Trophy and Queen Mother Champion chase – is now tweeting on horse welfare issues for Irish charity Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT).

Moscow Flyer is now a full-time equine ambassador for the Wicklow-based charity and his Twitter account went live on Sunday 18th April.  Moscow, as he is affectionately known at his home in the Irish Horse Welfare Centre in Woodenbridge, Co. Wicklow, will be keeping everyone updated with life at the farm and is hoping to be a hit around the world, given the special cause he represents and, of course, his celebrity status.

“Moscow has a wonderful life here on the farm, he is our Ambassador and a voice for the rescued horses that come through our gates each year,” adds Sharon Newsome co founder of IHWT.  “While we always knew he was a very talented and special horse, we were surprised that he was so up to speed with the latest social media….what next,” Sharon laughs.

The IHWT is based in Woodenbridge and is Ireland’s only dedicated Equine Welfare Charity. The Welfare Centre specialises in dealing with hundreds of cases of neglect and cruelty, making a difference as the voice of equines in Ireland. The rescue of 41 horses from a farm in Kilkenny saw friends and supporters of IHWT rally around the charity and 32 of these horses have now gone on to find loving homes.

The Welfare Centre is currently homing a record number of rescued horses and would welcome prospective owners interested in giving them a new caring home to get in touch (www.ihwt.ie). The charity also operates an Ex-Race Horse Retraining Programme for horses finished on the track. Successful Ex racehorses to Show horses have included Moscow Flyer, Col Rayburn, Golden Hop and Jaguar Claw, to name but a few.
