Tinahely Riding Club ran a very successful Derby on Monday June 6 in aid of the Gorey Carriage Driving Association, who is raising funds for a wheel chair accessible carriage. An impressive sum of €2000 was raised on the day, with all proceeds going to charity.

The Derby course consisted of a range of show jumps and cross country jumps arranged in the main arena at the club’s Coolboy grounds. The classes, which began at 40cm to accommodate beginners, rose to 90cms at end of the day. Such was the attendance, the competition began at 10am in the morning and did not finish until 6pm that evening. In addition to entries, a raffle was also run with excellent prizes. Generous sponsorship was received from a number of companies, including Thetackroom.ie, Hoofprints and the RDS.

Organised fully by the volunteer members of the club, everyone was delighted with the great turnout, camaraderie of competitors and worthiness of the charitable cause. Mandy Hayden, chairman of the club, thanked everyone, especially Club secretary Faith Bailey, for their hard work and great success.
